• Lighting system upgrade as an effective method of reducing a carbon footprint.

The sustainable development of enterprises is directly dependent on the transition to efficient energy-saving technologies. Companies that do not invest in these areas today will begin to lose in competition tomorrow due to higher costs and decreasing market share.

The global decarbonization trend affected not only the energy-intensive public sector of the economy, but also most public companies. An increasing number of investors study the ESG rating before making decisions. This assessment takes into account environmental, social and corporate business management. Business leaders who ignore this reality are doomed to borrow money from the market at higher interest rates, and also lose their social appeal in the public eye.

The major share (more than 60%) of electricity in the world is still produced by burning coal and natural gas; the transition to “green” technologies is still at early stages. Therefore, energy-saving solutions are already contributing to the significant decarbonization of the industrial sector: less energy consumption means less emissions into the atmosphere.

Another global trend is the digitalization of production. Digitalization is necessary to optimize production processes. It enables more efficient management of corporate energy resources and, consequently, significant energy savings.

For example, TMK and ENERCOM are jointly developing innovative energy-saving solutions as part of their ESG strategy. The pilot project in this area was the modernization of the lighting systems in the TAGMET workshops occupying an area of 360,000 m2. According to the results of control measurements, the level of energy consumption at the premises was reduced by 85%. At the same time, the enterprise improved the quality and safety of illumination for its workforce. Total direct savings from the modernization of the lighting system will reach 168 million rubles. Currently, ENERCOM is involved in the development of similar projects for all TMK leading enterprises, where the total direct savings from lighting system upgrades alone will amount to more than 500 million rubles per year. The annual CO2 emissions into the atmosphere will decrease by more than 75,000 tons.

Reducing the carbon footprint is the only possible development path that allows the civilization to preserve the planet for future generations. Companies that recognize this fact are not only the most socially responsible in the public eye. They also receive tangible economic dividends from moving in this direction. The successful cooperation between TMK and ENERCOM is a clear evidence of this.
